Life doesn’t have to be so serious! Indulge your joyful, creative nature with InterPlay, a body-centred arts practice that combines movement and dance, voice and song, story-telling and reflection. Anyone can do InterPlay. Its simple methods will put you at ease with whatever comes up in the moment, leading to funny, insightful and deeply satisfying experiences.
Belinda trained in Australia as a leader of InterPlay, which she introduced to New Zealand in 2013. She teaches mainly in Christchurch and Auckland, and at Drama NZ conferences (for drama educators) for the past four years. She is also an Alexander Technique teacher and is active in community arts, including dance, physical theatre, singing and improvisation.
Day One will introduce core InterPlay forms, and the range of movement and vocal choices that inspire them. You’ll discover refreshing new ways of connecting with yourself and others in the spontaneous ‘playspace’. Day Two will explore the interweaving of forms, and together we’ll create ensemble scenarios that will surprise and delight. You don’t need any performance experience to enjoy InterPlay, though it is a great foundation for performance in that it develops players’ confidence, repertoire, and encourages supportive collaboration.
A fun, interactive session for musicians to develop their own musical voice and communicate with others through improvisational exercises.
Suitable for students, amateurs, teachers and performers – all abilities, ages and orchestral instruments are welcome.
Bring your instrument and sense of adventure.
The session will culminate in a jazz standard supported by piano and double bass, where you can improvise comfortably at the level of your ability.
