InterPlay with Belinda Meares

by Grum Frith
InterPlay with Belinda Meares

Life doesn’t have to be so serious! Indulge your joyful, creative nature with InterPlay, a body-centred arts practice that combines movement and dance, voice and song, story-telling and reflection. Anyone can do InterPlay. Its simple methods will put you at ease with whatever comes up in the moment, leading to funny, insightful and deeply satisfying experiences.

Belinda trained in Australia as a leader of InterPlay, which she introduced to New Zealand in 2013. She teaches mainly in Christchurch and Auckland, and at Drama NZ conferences (for drama educators) for the past four years. She is also an Alexander Technique teacher and is active in community arts, including dance, physical theatre, singing and improvisation.

See www.interplayaus.com.au  www.interplay.org and Facebook InterPlay New Zealand

Day One will introduce core InterPlay forms, and the range of movement and vocal choices that inspire them. You’ll discover refreshing new ways of connecting with yourself and others in the spontaneous ‘playspace’.  Day Two will explore the interweaving of forms, and together we’ll create ensemble scenarios that will surprise and delight.  You don’t need any performance experience to enjoy InterPlay, though it is a great foundation for performance in that it develops players’ confidence, repertoire, and encourages supportive collaboration.

Basket Weaving with Tamar Guse

by Grum Frith

Tamar Guse is based in Waipara and weaves contemporary baskets and
sculptures with a combination of traditional basket weaving techniques, natural
elements, colour and creativity. She teaches basket weaving workshops and has
her art work displayed in local galleries. “The magic of weaving for me is seeing
how a natural object; be it driftwood, vine or antler, determines the shape and
how the colours I incorporate into the basket or sculpture give it its personality. In
this way I am able to create one of a kind pieces inspired by nature.”

In this workshop you will learn basic basketry and weaving techniques with a variety of
materials such as reed, seagrass and driftwood to create your own beautiful and functional
handmade basket

.
